Cafe Empty was created by Curtis Campion in 2018 after he left his job in corporate tech and moved to Montreal, Canada, with the dream of creating an indie game he would've wanted his teenage self to play: one with a gay hero.
While LGBT representation in video games has come a long way, right now, if you’re underage, or just an adult who wants to play a non-sexual game with a gay story, there are not a lot of options out there. Curtis wanted to change that.
After working closely with pixel artist Kurt Prieto, and music composer Jessica Kelly, to help bring the world of Silverpine to life, the first chapter of Newfound Courage was released into early release on Steam in December 2018 - and Cafe Empty was born.
After the successful release of Newfound Courage in March 2019, and following the release of the free DLC ‘Winter’s Fair’ in December 2019, the studio and its staff have been working steadily on a range of new projects. Stay tuned to see what's next!
